Três Palmeiras is a traditional, well-known restaurant in Albufeira, Algarve, and a reference to locals and tourists alike if the subject comes down to excellent fish dishes. The owners, Anabela and Joao Labisa, and their daughters, Ana and Paula, are unquestionably deserving of such a popular restaurant. They are welcoming, friendly and treat their visitors the same way they would treat close friends.
Open for the first time in 1979 by Joao Labisa and his brother Luis, Café Palmeira would be the first attempt at the restaurant business. Later, he purchased the land where the Três Palmeiras restaurant and its first stone is placed in 1982. Five years later, Três Palmeiras restaurant is ready for business and becomes a mark in the tourist scene of the Algarve and it still is to this day.
Arriving at Três Palmeiras restaurant, the first impression is of a classical yet sophisticated place, with hints of historical traditions scattered through the two ample dining halls, one of them being also a bar and the other a closed veranda, offering 110 seats for those who appreciate traditional and sea-inspired food.
The menu is widely diversified and is able to fit every taste and budget. Begin your meal by ordering a few starters, such as goat cheese, prosciutto and melon, codfish pastries, fish soup, vegetable soup, coleslaw salad, smoked salmon, tuna & mayo salad, Palmeira-style clams, shrimp cocktail or even garlic prawns.
Follow with a main course of fish, such as the Portuguese Tuna Steak, Codfish with bacon, Tuna Steak with pepper sauce, Grilled sole, Grilled Turbot or even Grilled ray with olive oil and garlic. All of these are usually freshly caught and served the sooner they can to ensure the flavours are not lost.
If, however, you are in the mood for meat dishes, there is plenty of choices which are sure to be delicious and cooked to perfection. The Pepper sauce steak, the Grilled chicken kebab with rice, the Piri-piri chicken with fries, the Pork with clams and fries or the Grilled pork chops with fries are all worth a try at least once in a lifetime.
The Três Palmeiras restaurant also features a few specialties: Pork meat Cataplana with clams and prawns, Seafood rice, Prawn curry with white rice, and Duck à l’orange with vegetables. The omelettes, on the other hand, are a great choice for those who get stuffed with just the starters and want something light. Try the Prawn omelette with fries or the Mushroom omelette, also with fries.
The restaurant has a children’s menu available as well, featuring Ham or cheese omelette with fries, Pork schnitzel with fries or Golden fish fillets with rice Primavera. Vegetarian dishes, although limited, are also available.
Although reservations are advised, you can still try and wait for a table at the bar while you indulge in a glass of one of their wonderful wine bottles in stock.
