While many visitors to Braga in northern Portugal choose to base themselves right in the heart of the historic city, there are several interesting alternatives away from the hustle and bustle of the centre.
One such option is the Grande Hotel Braga, also known as the Grande Hotel Bom Jesus. This small and friendly hotel is located right in the Bom Jesus Natural Park in an elevated position on a hillside, affording excellent views over the rooftops of Portugal’s oldest city.
Although its name might suggest an old-world “Grande” hotel, in fact the Grande Hotel Braga is a bright, modern building offering clean and spacious accommodation and a delightfully welcoming atmosphere.
It is particularly noted for its friendly, helpful staff who relish the opportunity to go the extra mile to ensure their guests’ comfort and enjoyment, and who are keen to share their knowledge of the local area to help visitors get the most from their trip to Braga.
There are a number of room options, varying from doubles and twins for single or double occupancy, to suites and large family rooms sleeping, three, four or more people in total comfort. The rooms are individually designed in an interesting styling that meshes the modern with the traditional to great effect.
All rooms feature a balcony and en-suite bathroom along with air conditioning, hair dryer, safe, iron and ironing board (on request), direct dial telephone, free Wi-Fi, television and satellite channels. Note that the hotel does not offer any rooms adapted for disabled guests, although there are many such hotels in the city centre to choose from.
The hotel is laid out over five floors containing thirty-one rooms in total. Ask for a room on one of the upper floors for the best views out over the city. All floors are served by a lift and the public areas are air conditioned and offer Wi-Fi throughout.
Services in the hotel include a bar and lounge, computer area, laundry services, parking and room service. Massages and spa treatments are also available both in the hotel’s treatment rooms and in guest rooms.
The Grande Hotel Braga is as popular a choice with business guests as it is with sightseers, and offers banqueting facilities, meeting rooms and a variety of audiovisual equipment.
Breakfast is served via room service by prior arrangement or buffet style in the breakfast area between 8am and 10.30am. Snacks are also available by room service throughout the day.
All in all, a perfect choice for anyone keen to sample the delights of Braga, Portugal, from a tranquil location away from the city centre.
