Situated on the fringes of central Braga is a small and friendly restaurant with a big reputation. The Restaurant Arcoense serves traditional specialities from the north of Portugal, albeit in many instances with an unusual modern twist.
The varied menu, competitive pricing and high quality cuisine keep locals and visitors returning time and again to sample the best that the Restaurant Arcoense has to offer. Open from 12.30 to 10.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 12.30 to 3pm on Sundays, the Arcoense Restaurant is a popular choice for lunch and dinner all year round.
The dining room seats approximately 20 diners and has steadfastly resisted the urge to squeeze more than this into the available space, resulting in a bright, airy dining area that offers plenty of space and privacy between tables.
A comfortable waiting area is furnished with sofas and makes the perfect place to sip an aperitif as you wait to be seated at your table. The tables themselves are elegantly presented with pristine white tablecloths and napkins, surrounded by tiled flooring and interesting carved wood pieces that make the décor unmistakeably “Portugal”.
This is a place to visit with a hearty appetite and a desire to take a taste bud tour of some of the best Minho cuisine available in the city of Braga. Try the Padron peppers, blood sausage with greens, Arcoense rice, baked cod, lobster rice, and the sea bass or hake fillets.
Children will love watching the fish in the aquarium — though you may want to drag them away before the next lobster is retrieved for dinner! For something seriously hearty, opt for one of the barbecue specials that the Arcoense Restaurant does so well, the Mindinha rib, pork or barbecued goat are all recommended.
This is a popular restaurant for couples and groups, and is a particular favourite with local family groups (bookings for up to 35 guests are accepted).
If a quiet ambience is of particular importance to you, it is worth checking in advance whether there are any large group bookings at the same time, although these often just serve to enhance the warm, friendly and vibrant atmosphere that is found in most restaurants in Portugal.
Car parking is easy outside the restaurant and it is also accessible by bus or on foot from locations throughout Braga. All major credit cards accepted.
