The Centurium Restaurant is a relatively new addition to the popular restaurant scene in Braga, Portugal. It occupies an enviable position right in the heart of the city, in the pedestrianised historic centre, in a 19th century building right on the Avenida Central, or Central Avenue, in front of the famous monument to Pope John Paul II.
The Minho region, with Braga at its heart, is one of Portugal’s best known areas for gastronomy, meaning that diners are spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where to eat lunch or dinner.
Restaurants in Braga are always busy, but still need to differentiate themselves in order to stand out from the crowd, and the Restaurant Centurium does this very well, indeed.
It offers a welcoming and comfortable interior, decorated with granite walls and comfortable furnishings that create a convivial atmosphere that invites guests to eat, talk, laugh, indulge their senses and return time and again for yet another taste of a perfect Minho meal. In addition to the main dining room space, the Centurium benefits from a private garden, providing yet another space and ambience for guests to sample and enjoy.
The menu is typical regional fare, but rather than focusing on providing set dishes, it aims to embrace whatever produce is fresh and in season in this area of Portugal at any given time. This is one of the delights of the Centurium — every time you return, you will have the chance to sample something entirely new and different, yet always fresh and prepared with the greatest of care.
Menu items embrace fresh fish from the nearby Atlantic waters, high-quality meats, freshly grown vegetables and a selection of well chosen wines to complement the vast array of flavours on offer.
A set daily lunch menu for just 10.90 euros including dishes such as oven-roasted rabbit with spaghetti and fried fish with flavoured rice makes the Centurium Restaurant a popular daytime choice as well as a sought-after location for a romantic or business dinner.
Begin your evening meal with an aperitif at the bar before sampling other delights such as apple tartlet with cheese and port wine reduction, grilled prawns in white wine and butter sauce, roasted cod and seafood spaghetti.
The Centurium is open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, from 12.30 to 3pm for lunch and from 7.30pm to 10pm for dinner. All major credit cards accepted. Booking advisable.
