Divinus Restaurant in Évora is located in one of the city’s most famous historic buildings, the fifteenth-century Convento do Espinheiro, which has been carefully restored and transformed into a five-star luxury hotel.
This restaurant in Évora makes for one of the most unique and attractive dining options you could enjoy during your trip to Portugal and is well worth a visit if you find yourself in this UNESCO World Heritage city.
Divinus Restaurant will take you on a gastronomic tour of the tastes of Portugal’s Alentejo. Yet unlike many restaurants in Évora, it does not stick to rustic versions of the area’s most famous dishes, it meshes them beautifully with the best of Mediterranean cooking to create a delightful fusion of regional and international flavours.
The dining room itself is found in the former wine cellar of the Convent’s monks, a huge room with tall, vaulted light stone ceilings set off to perfection with crisp white linen and deep red upholstered chairs that are so comfortable that the delicious food is not the only reason you will not want your meal to end.
Divinus Restaurant makes for a more formal dining experience than many of the other restaurants in town. The front of house team is as well trained as you would expect of five-star hotel staff and the sommelier is knowledgeable and happy to share his wisdom about the contents of the restaurant’s modern-day wine cellar.
Chef Luis Mourão has been in residence since December 2009 and has gained extensively through his training and participation in gastronomic events all over the world, from Germany to Brazil, before arriving to take his place at the forefront of Évora’s gastronomic scene. His ethos is to make even the simplest foods a study in perfection and to embrace the best of the Alentejo, and by and large he is deemed to have succeeded.
All in all an excellent restaurant in Évora and well worth a visit.
