The Hotel Santa Justa is a four-star boutique hotel situated right in the heart of the Baixa, the commercial and financial centre of Lisbon, Portugal. The Elevador de Santa Justa is right on the hotel’s doorstep and it excellently positioned just a stone’s throw from the Praca do Rossio, the Chiado and the Praca do Comercio. Saint George’s Castle and Lisbon Cathedral are also within easy reach.
The Santa Justa Hotel is set in two lovingly restored Pombalines buildings dating from the 18th and 19th century. The Baixa was the area that was worst affected by the great earthquake that devastated Portugal’s capital city in 1755.
When it was rebuilt it was built on the new ‘grid’ system, being the first European city to do so. The hotel’s buildings are fine examples of the architectural advances and innovations that were made during this period.
The hotel rooms are a mix of double, king or twin bedded rooms along with attic view rooms and family rooms, which are larger and suitable for adults travelling with children.
All rooms benefit from exterior views, excellent soundproofing, fully equipped en-suite bathroom, hairdryer, magnifying mirror with light, LED TV with multiple free channels, free safe, minibar and free Wi-Fi connectivity. Rooms also benefit from desks and multi-line phones.
There are 55 rooms in total, all complete with air conditioning. Comfort rooms are a little larger than standard rooms and have balconies offering lovely views over Lisbon to the Santa Justa lift, Saint George’s Castle, the Carmo Convent Ruins and the Sao Pedro de Alcantara viewpoint.
Attic rooms are even higher, with more sweeping views to match, while the family rooms consist of two connecting rooms, one a double superior room and the other a double premium room. Both are of a good size and are cleverly linked by interconnecting doors.
A number of facilities are available to guests of the hotel.
These include free wifi access throughout the building, 24 hours a day, car parking close by with valet, room service from 7am to 11pm, 24-hour reception with concierge service, laundry service and a range of additional extras, from bathrobes to wake up calls.
